Open Access Week coming up

Next week is Open Access Week. Better sign up now. More education is needed so badly. I had a discussion with an editor of two journals last week and every time I mentioned open access he immediately went to the gold model (see news of gold model in today's IHE) which is not necessary for humanities journals. Who gives these people there information? Why don't they know about models which are much more suitable for the types of journals that theological schools subscribe to? Why did I have to find out today that yet another journal I subscribe to has gone up 300Euros? That is one more cancellation. I hope more of you will sign up to follow Open Access Week!

Today I'm joining Jessie's 11-day Persephone Readathon ! I heard of this by way of  Claire at The Captive Reader . I'm a day behind, but I might mention that I do not even remember how I heard of Persephone; it has been too long. I already have three Persephone books lined up to review for A Century of Books so it made sense. Unfortunately, I have no more Persephones on my nightstand waiting to be read. So today is celebrating by sharing photos of one's own Persephone Library. My photos are not beautiful like Claire's, but they suffice. The first one show them with the lovely bookmarks that are of the same design as the endpages. I thought I had all of mine, but a few a missing. That's a bummer! This second photo is just them lined up mostly in order by the ones I've had the longest to the most recently acquired.I have a ton more marked in my Persephone catalog that go on my wishlist!

Melody Layton McMahon, December 25, 1957 to December 13, 2021

Melody Layton McMahon, 63, passed away at Clarehouse in Tulsa on December 13, 2021. She was born on December 25, 1957 in Tulsa to Conrad and Beverly (Roberson) Layton. She married husband Michael (Mike) McMahon in Tulsa in 1982. She inspired a lifelong love of learning in her children Maeve McMahon (Ardern Hulme-Beaman) of Liverpool, UK and Niall McMahon (Lauren) of Washington, DC. She was also the doting grandmother to Winston, Niall and Lauren’s Shetland sheepdog. Melody attended Berryhill School in Tulsa before attending the University of Oklahoma where she was awarded a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music. She then attended Columbia University in New York, NY where she attained a Masters of Science in Library Service. She later completed a Masters of Art in Systematic Theology at St Mary’s Seminary in Cleveland, OH. Her career in librarianship spanned the fields of music, general academic studies and, most importantly, theological librarianship. She worked at The Juilliard School (New Y
